FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
THE OPENING 7on7 INVITATIONAL FAQS

Q: Who can attend The Opening 7on7 Invitational? Can seniors (Class of 2021) attend?

A: The Opening 7on7 Invitational is intended for 100 of the top prospects in the Class of 2022 as well as select elite underclassmen. Student Sports’ football staff has selected the first batch of invites based on film evaluation, 2020/2021 season performance and feedback from 247Sports Recruiting analysts. To be considered for a spot in the event in case an additional spot presents itself, players may submit their information at our Player Submission link, or be nominated by their high school head coach at our Coaches Submission Link.

Q: Is this event the same as The Opening Finals that was held in the past?

A: Yes and no. Yes in that The Opening is built on delivering a premier football experience to the best-of-the-best high school football players, who are not only physically talented, but also motivated and driven to personally become the best people and players they can be. Established in 2011, The Opening quickly became the most exclusive and elite offseason event each year and has traditionally been the only place where the best in high school, college and professional football all come together to grow the future of the sport. This year’s event is different in that it is an “invitational”, being open to more players than in the past from an invitation standpoint, and will fill up on a first-come, first-serve basis for those who choose to attend and can travel to the event in Los Angeles.

Q: What’s the cost of attending The Opening 7on7 Invitational?

A: Due to the limited space, there is a $100 registration fee/deposit, $75 of which is refunded upon check-in at the event on July 1.

Q: What will The Opening 7on7 Invitational event consist of?

A: After check-in, gear up and the event introduction and opportunity for a light workout on the night of July 1, July 2nd will be a full day of competition, starting with the training camp early in the day, where top prospects will test to crown the nation’s top athlete and fastest man, as well as receive coaching and instruction from former and current stars of the game before competing in 1on1 drills. Later in the evening, a 7on7 jamboree will be held as the prospects take to the field to compete with and against the nation’s top QBs. The event concludes the morning of July 3 with a 4-team 7on7 championship event.

Q: How do I scratch my testing results?

A: Athletes can email scratch@studentsports.com after the event to have their results scratched. Please be sure to include the athlete’s name and the results you want to have scratched. Please note that scratching any of the testing results will not yield a Rating.

Q: My school is not listed on the registration page. What should I do?

A: If you do not see your school on the list of high schools after selecting the state, you can request to have your school added to the list. Please complete your registration using another school from the appropriate state then email the athlete's name, correct high school, including the school city & state and the event registered to attend. To report a missing school and/or have your school updated, please click here now.

Q: I registered for The Opening 7on7 Invitational; will I now get a confirmation email?

A: Yes, once your registration is approved by our staff and the deposit payment has been made, you and your parent or guardian will get an email confirming your registration for the event. If you have not received your confirmation within a day of payment, please check your spam, events or junk email folders. You will need to print out this confirmation and waiver and bring it with you to The Opening 7on7 Invitational.

Q: I’m traveling from out-of-state/out-of-the area to compete at The Opening 7on7 Invitational. What do I need to do?

A: Great - we’re excited that you’re taking advantage of this one-of-a-kind opportunity to learn and compete! After you’ve completed registration and made your deposit payment, the next thing to get started on is confirming your travel plans so you can get to and from the event. Los Angeles Airport (LAX) is the recommended airport to travel in-and-out, located just 10 minutes away from our event location at Mira Costa High School. Check your invite email and confirmation email for recommended hotel lodging and if you need further information please don’t hesitate to email ronny@studentsports.com (offensive players) or eugene@studentsports.com (defensive players).

Q: Can I go to The Opening 7on7 Invitational to watch?

A: That will be determined in the near future based on the updated California COVID-19 safety protocols. We must keep the fields clear and safe for all participants, however we will do our best to provide spectator opportunities if possible.

Q: I registered but now will not be able to attend the event. Can I receive a refund on the deposit fee?

A: Yes, provided you notify our football staff in a timely manner. The deposit system is in place due to the limited space and to ensure that only participants who are committed to attend are officially confirmed for the event. So if a situation arises that prevents you from attending we are happy to process a refund as long as we are notified in a timely manner so as we have time to find a replacement for your spot.number of spots available.

Q: How can I change my registration information?

A: The weight of the powerball is 6 pounds.

Q: Will there be 1 on 1’s at The Opening 7on7 Invitational?

A: Yes. All drills will be filmed for college coaches and distributed post-event along with testing results through our event partner, The UCReport.

Q: How do I get my official Rating results?

A: You will leave the event with your unofficial results in hand. You will receive an email a few days after the event with links to view official results and head shots that were taken at the event.

Q: What do I need to bring to The Opening 7on7 Invitational?

A: First and foremost, your Event waiver, which can be found in the email confirmation. Every invited and confirmed athlete will receive Jordan Brand product each day to compete in. Athletes from out of the area should also pack their own toiletries as well as clothes to wear during the evenings when away from the event. We recommend that athletes leave all valuables at home or with parents or coaches. Student Sports is not responsible for any lost or stolen items, please pack accordingly and note that you don’t need to bring a lot to compete.

Q: It’s raining, will The Opening 7on7 Invitational be cancelled?

A: The Opening 7on7 Invitational will be held rain or shine. Just like a football game, only in the event of lightning will athletes be pulled off the field for safety.

Q: I would like to volunteer as a coach or event helper. Where can I sign up?
